1970s-1980's - Instructor, Drum Line

August 31, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gord O’Hallaran. Gord was well known in the Canadian Drum Corps community. He “aged out” of the Toronto Optimists in the early 60s and from that point he started a career instructing drummers that spanned decades. Whenever Gord’s name is mentioned, you will hear many a drummer comment that he was their first instructor. St. John’s was fortunate to have Gord instruct the drum line in the mid 70s and again in the 80s. We will all remember him playing drum parts on his chest, while singing the part in his unique way.

Gord was still drumming, now with the Toronto Signals band, and I had the pleasure of seeing him perform with them last September at the Ontario drum corps reunion.

I hope you will smile when you remember Gord and happy memories will come to mind, he was one of a kind. Gord leaves behind his son Ken. Rest in peace Harpo.

Sorry, we do not have photos to share at this time.
